Middlesex County Agricultural Hall of Fame Announces 2023 Inductees
For immediate release May 18th, 2023 - (London) – The Middlesex County Agricultural Hall of Fame, founded in 2000, recognizes the history and tradition of agriculture in Middlesex County. The primary objective of the Agricultural Hall of Fame is to recognize those who have demonstrated unselfish achievements within the realm of agriculture and service to the rural community in Middlesex County and beyond. This year marks our twenty-second induction ceremony, and to-date there have been almost eighty individuals recognized for their contributions. In 2023 the following nominees have been selected; David Edward Richards, and four generations of the Murray Family; James, Andrew Gordon, James (Jim), Andrew David. They will be honoured on Sunday, June 11th at the Western Fair District, in the Agriplex Lobby.
DAVID EDWARD RICHARDS (1937-2022) – David was born in Chatham, and his family eventually settled in Lambeth. Following the in footsteps of his father, Dave had a successful career in the frozen food industry. In 1983 he was a founding partner of Strathroy Foods, and an original member of the Canadian Food Processor Association. His involvement in public policy, food production as well as the frozen food industry locally and internationally is being recognized with this nomination.
THE MURRAY FAMILY: JAMES (1851-1926) ANDREW GORDON (1886-1967) JAMES “JIM” DAVID (1910-1996) & ANDREW DAVID MURRAY (1945-2012) – The Murray family have been farming for close to 200 years in Middlesex County. Generations in which each of these men has contributed as agricultural leaders in the region. They developed a successful Holstein herd, and took on leadership roles in organizations such as the Middlesex Federation of Agriculture, Middlesex Soil & Crop Improvement Association, Western Fair, and the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. Through this nomination, we honour how the Murray family has worked within their community and beyond, advocating for our farmers.
The induction ceremony will be held at the Western Fair District, in the Agriplex Lobby on Sunday June 11th, 2023 at 1:00pm.
