Every great mascot needs a great partner.

As a Mascot Handler on the Happy Camper Promotional Team, you’ll be the eyes, ears, and guide for Happy, our beloved mascot, at community events throughout the summer and during the 10-day Western Fair (September 11–20, 2026).

In this role, you’ll help ensure every appearance runs smoothly by supporting the mascot performer, managing guest interactions, coordinating event logistics, and creating positive experiences for visitors of all ages. You’ll be the behind-the-scenes professional who helps bring the magic to life.

This seasonal position offers the opportunity to work at exciting community events across the region, with the potential for 200+ hours throughout the summer and fair season.

What You’ll Do

  • Safely guide and support the Mascot Performer through crowds, event spaces, stairs, and outdoor terrain.
  • Coordinate photo opportunities and guest interactions to ensure a positive and organized experience.
  • Monitor the wellbeing of the Mascot Performer, including heat, fatigue, visibility, and crowd conditions.
  • Drive the Western Fair District promotional vehicle (Mercedes-Benz Sprinter) to and from events.
  • Coordinate event arrivals with organizers and assist with activation setup and tear down.
  • Represent Western Fair District in a professional, enthusiastic, and engaging manner.
  • Promote the Western Fair, special events, and programming to guests.
  • Sell advance tickets and merchandise while providing excellent customer service.
  • Load, unload, and maintain promotional materials and equipment.
  • Work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Participate in up to 16 summer weekend events, as well as the full 10-day Western Fair.

What You Bring

  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence (required).
  • Previous experience in customer service, promotions, entertainment, hospitality, or other public-facing roles.
  • Strong situational awareness and the ability to anticipate and respond to changing environments.
  • Comfortable engaging with children, families, and large crowds.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Calm, professional, and adaptable under pressure.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, and work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Ticket-selling, cash-handling, or promotional experience is considered an asset.
  • Ability to successfully complete a background check, which may include a criminal record check and reference verification.

Working Conditions

This position involves frequent travel to community events, outdoor work in varying weather conditions, lifting and moving promotional materials, and extended periods of standing and walking.

Because Western Fair District delivers live events and community experiences, flexibility is essential. Evening, weekend, holiday, and occasional extended shifts may be required.

Additional Information

This is a part-time role. Because we produce live events and community experiences, flexibility is essential. Evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required, particularly during major events such as the Annual Western Fair.
